Lovely grounds and views . Very comfortable bed.
In need of a refurbishment. Room was dated and bathroom especially was old and in need of a facelift. Could have been cleaner- a few cobwebs . Reception staff on arrival were flustered and did not take an imprint of our credit card. This caused us problems later in the bar as we could not charge drinks etc to our room. Corridor areas were messy and scruffy. Trays from breakfast still on floors outside rooms that night. Pictures propped up against walls on floors- Should be told on arrival that you will be charged for newspapers ..
the Wedding facilities were good
There was another party going on until the early hours of the morning and the volume of the music was horrendous. In addition the windows were nailed shut so we were unable to get any fresh air into the room. Finally there was a power cut in the morning so we were unable even to make a cup of tea and the staff didnt offer any form of compensation.
An excellent hotel. Ideal for a short quiet country break but in easy reach of large shops by car.
Had to wait a long time to be served on the second day in the restaurant. The staff were apparently in training and it appeared that we got forgotten about and other tables were served ahead of us having arrived after us. The steam room in the spa was out of use.
The lovely views and the lovely old building.
It was a bit of a maze finding way round hotel
Excellent leisure facilities and great food in a marvellous location, ideal for relaxing and unwinding
Room we stayed in 135 needs updating and was in our opinion on the small side
The room was a good size and the breakfast was excellent, especially the sausages!
The room was a bit shabby in places. There was a plastic shower curtain that was awful and clung to you whilst in the shower, the shower head was a bit dirty and there was only one small shower gel for 2 people.
I found the staff very friendly and helpful. The view over the surrounding countryside was fantastic.
I and several other guests at the event I was attending found the signage at the roadside entrance to be inadequate. I actually missed the entrance completely during the middle of the afternoon.
The hotel is in beautiful surroundings with some lovely views
The service was rather poor, with staff rude and unwilling to help the food was rather poor quality and unappetising
The Barcelo Shrigley Hall Hotel is located in a very picturesque location, not too far from Manchester, and is ideal for golfers. The hotels grounds and golf course are superb. The food served in the hotel restaurant is of a very high standard and the hotel spa is very good and certainly worth a visit.
We visited at the weekend and the hotel was busy, which was nice but the staff were possibly less attentive (particularly in the restaurant) because of the number of guests.
the building is beautiful and the location amazing.
small room overlooking flat roof sith noisy fan going all night, terrible staff service (dirty glasses, tables not cleared, cigarette butts in foyer not cleaned up, empty beer can found stuffed in a plant in the hallway, i was served tea when asked for coffee for breakfast and the staff argued with me that it wasn't tea it was coffee which was blatantly not true), holes in the pillowcases, mouldy ceiling in bedroom, large wedding party took over the hotel and regular paying guests really suffered. it should be made clear that weddings are their priority and you may suffer from noise until 3am and a huge mess and drunk people taking over the whole lounge/bar area so you can't sit anywhere and have to go to your room.
The look of the outside building, plenty of land to walk through, clean and tidy room, use of swimming pool and gym, quiet location, food was nice. Friendly staff. Breakfast was included and fresh food was always being put out.
First night booked dinner table for 8.30, but didnt get seated until 9.00. despite the wait nobody came to see if we would like a drink until 8.55. Menu overpriced and very small selection. Easy to get lost due to never ending coridoors.
The Staircase in the main building!!!!
Not impressed - paid £161 for a premium room expecting a bit of luxery, this we did not find. The room & toilet space was small, overlooked the carpark, loud music from some-one's wedding and the constant clunking of the lift all night. We were advised the hotel was 8 miles from Buxton, it wasn't!! Reception ordered us a taxi to Buxton which when it arrived was dirty and smelly. At breakfast I observed the restaurant manager cleaning a high chair which consisted of her flicking cumbs onto the floor finished off with a wipe from a napkin from a used table which she then threw on the floor next to a ready made up table - this was not removed - the whole stay was a disappointment, not the quality expected for the star rating or the money
very pleasant stay (attended evening wedding party) lovely setting.
Bit of a trek to our room (241) and lifts felt slightly dodgy.
Position, and building both excellent
The Dinner was below standard for a Hotel of this quality
Lovely setting well trained and helpful staff good quality accomodation nice food and good leisure facilities
Leisure club changing rooms looking very slightly tired
